Marrakech to Zagora Desert Itinerary
Follow this 2-day Morocco itinerary from Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains, ancient kasbahs and the Draa Valley to Zagora, with a camel ride and overnight stay in the desert.
Day 1
Marrakech → Ait Benhaddou → Draa Valley → Zagora Desert
Your desert trip begins in the morning with pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech. Travel south across the High Atlas Mountains, following the winding road through the Tizi N’Tichka Pass and enjoying stops for panoramic views along the way.
Continue to Ait Benhaddou, one of Morocco’s best-known fortified villages and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will have time to explore the old kasbah and walk through its narrow passages before continuing toward southern Morocco.
The journey then passes through Ouarzazate and follows the landscapes of the Draa Valley, known for its palm groves, traditional villages and ancient kasbahs.
In the late afternoon, arrive in the Zagora Desert, where you will meet your camel caravan and ride across the desert landscape as the sun begins to set. The evening is spent at your desert camp, with dinner and traditional music under the night sky.

Day 2
Zagora → Tamnougalt → Ouarzazate → Marrakech
Wake up early to enjoy the peaceful desert morning before breakfast at the camp. After leaving Zagora, travel back through the Draa Valley, following the palm-lined route toward Agdz.
Stop to discover Tamnougalt Kasbah, a historic fortified village that offers a closer look at the traditional architecture and history of the Draa Valley.
Continue along the scenic Ait Saouen road, with its mountain curves and changing landscapes, before reaching Ouarzazate. Depending on timing and your interests, you can stop near the famous Atlas Studios, known for films and international productions made in the region.
From Ouarzazate, cross the High Atlas Mountains once again and return to Marrakech. Your 2-day Zagora desert journey ends with drop-off at your accommodation in the evening.
